On Orchard Street, a frenetic zone in the LES of Manhattan, time has stopped in the small office-workshop where the designer is originating his showpieces. The craziest thoughts turn into pieces of art…the art of having no style.
Designer? NO! He is a revolutionary who protests against similarity, fashion and boredom. His look shouts “I am singular!” You can notice huge enthusiasm in his eyes when he sees something new, something that nobody has. From early childhood he surrounded himself with the uncommon and surmounted any challenge. If it is not allowed, I want it even more! You can’t challenge me because you are going to lose“. Castro believes in destiny, he is a realist. “Everything happens for a reason…you can’t control your destiny”.
Entering the room is like stepping into a prehistoric,Victorian Castle…strewn with leather, silver, diamonds. The walls are covered with bird skulls sketches, talismans and amulets, and one feels a magical aura. From HERE materializes leather cuffs, rings, amulets, bracelets – but a few of the artist’s creations!
Talking about the future Castro refers to a Bruce Lee and Yohji Yamamoto documentary: “I don’t want to be stuck in one ball, don’t want to be on the earth. Space age – this is what I want to reach, I want to break free!” The most important aspect for the creator is expressing himself honestly. “I don’t believe in style” – declares Castro – “I want to reach uncertainty, where people don’t know what is coming from me. Living and creating in immortality is the new black that I have “cocooned” myself in.
